Usually, it’s the simple things in life that are the most rewarding. And because there’s nothing very complicated about what our volunteers do, there’s ample time to talk it up with those around you. And ask anyone who’s participated in past volunteer events: we pride ourselves in bringing together a diverse group of volunteers.
Our material preparation events especially provide a one-size-fits all, social atmosphere. Our smaller harvest events usually require more attention to the tasks at hands and usually last for no more than 3 hours, beginning with a short safety and training session. Our harvest events, because they are often in houses or other close quarters, fill up quickly.
Unfortunately, we can’t host any volunteers under the age of 16 during our volunteer events (rusty nails, splinters, swinging hammers, etc.). We also request that volunteers bring their own gloves, goggles, and hammer if possible. While sponsors occasionally grace us with a supply of these things, it’ easier for everyone if you can bring your own.
In most cases there will be a consent and liability waiver form that you will need to sign before you get to work, and we provide a short but important safety training session at the beginning of our events, so please try to arrive a few minutes earlier than the announced times.
